Anwar Yusuf Turani is the founder and the current President of the Government in Exile of the Republic of East Turkistan presided by   Ahmet Igemberdi, the 1st President of the Government in Exile of the Republic of East Turkistan. Mr. Turani is the 1st Prime Minister of the Government in Exile of the Republic of East Turkistan (September 14, 2004 – September 14, 20012) succeeded by Ismail Jengiz (September 14, 2012 – September 14, 2020). He was born in Artush Prefecture of occupied East Turkistan on August 3, 1962 (Age 58).  He is the first  East Turkistani Uyghur who started the independent movement in the United States by establishing “East Turkistan National Freedom Center“, a professional political organization in Washington, DC, in 1996. Mr. Turani belongs to “East Turkistan National Liberation Party.” He is a freedom fighter, educator, father of four children (Turkel, Oghuz, Aydin, and Ephar), and musician. Mr. Turani graduated Kashgar Teacher’s College in Kashgar Prefecture of East Turkistan, and obtained his bachelor’s degree in physics, 1983. He did his graduate studies at the Department of Central Eurasian Studies of Indiana University in Bloomington towards his Master’s Degree (1993-95). As the spearhead of the East Turkistan independence movement among the East Turkistanis who advocates independence for their homeland, Mr. Turani has been the destroy target of the Chinese authorities supported by some pro-Chinese Uyghurs over the past thirty years, especially since the establishment of the Government in Exile by Mr. Turani 15 years ago.
